What are dental implants?
A dental implant consists of two parts. The first part, a small, titanium screw, makes up the implant post. Dr. Resuta will place the screw into an empty tooth socket according to precise measurements and calculations based on bone density and your occlusion. The second part, the restoration, is the actual tooth or prosthetic that Dr. Resuta will secure to the implant post(s). Depending on your case, you may need a porcelain crown, bridge, or denture.

How do dental implants work?
Made from biocompatible titanium, implant posts will be accepted by the body and naturally integrated with jawbone tissue. This creates a secure foundation that closely mimics a natural tooth root. Traditional prosthetics don’t replace the tooth root. A bridge and partial rely on surrounding structures for support, and dentures are anchored with adhesive to the gums.

Are dental implants right for me?
Because surgery is involved, dental implants are not right for everyone. The ideal candidate does not smoke, has adequate bone density, and is in good overall health. For patients with bone problems, procedures such as bone grafts and sinus lifts, can improve a patient's potential for successful implant placement.
